Lots of tourists swarm the island in Paris, home of Notre Dame Cathedral. But far too many overlook its adorable little sister, the quaint Ile Saint Louis just a few steps away. This small island is like an oasis from the rush of the city. While much of Paris has modernized over the years, the ile remains romantically frozen in the 17th century. There is even an ice cream that can only be found on this small island within Paris. Find out more about this alluring Paris neighborhood with my new feature, Ile Saint Louis: A Charming Oasis in the City.

Ile Saint Louis, the Island of Romantism
Posted by Paul under Hotel jeu de Paume in TripadvisorLeave a Comment
The Île Saint-Louis is actually made up of two islets: the Île aux Vaches and the Île Notre-Dame. The urbanization of the islets by 1614 led to the contruction fot the Pont-Marie, the quays and the angular streets. The majestic quayside façades are incredibly beatiful the the rue Saint-Louis-en-l’île still seems to belong to another era. You will find cozy restaurants and amaszing ice cream parlors here. But besides all these, the island is a spot within the city away from the noise of it. This makes it the perfect spot for romantic lovers, wondering around the island’s balconies, steps and riverbanks…

Georgous romantic hotel in Ile Saint Louis

A lovely location, close to many major sites & the Metro, & within walking distance of interesting neighbourhoods. Staff were friendly & helpful & multi-lingual. The hotel had a wonderful historic atmosphere, but the room was nothing exceptional for the price so it must reflect the location & historical value of the property.

A thoroughly delightful location. We enjoyed not only the charm and friendly personalized service of the hotel, but the quaint and quiet location, in the middle of the Seine yet away from the hustle and bustle of traffic. Good restaurants and all services were just steps away, and all the major sites were easy to get to from here. The rooms were small but perfectly comfortable, and the fresh roses in the room were certainly a nice touch. We would definitely stay there again.

We stayed at the Jeu de Paume in Nov. of 2002. It was recommended by a friend who visits Paris often. We were very pleased with the hotel. While not luxurious (which apparently is typical for smaller boutique hotels in Paris) our room was comfortable, and the marble bathroom was clean and well-appointed. Be aware that, as least in our room, the toilet is not in the same room as the tub and sink, but in its own closet near the door of the room. Our room was on the first floor, right next to the lobby, and we were concerned it would be noisy, but we had no problems with noise from the lobby. The room had french doors that opened right on to the courtyard. As it was chilly and rainy when we were there, no one used the courtyard, so it was very quiet and peaceful. (I’ve been told that street-facing rooms in the hotel are noisier.) Also, the room has no A/C, not a problem in November, but could be in July. The staff was wonderful, very friendly and helpful, and not at all distainful of our American status. Many staff people spoke at least some English. Also, one staffer often brought her dog to work–a homey touch appreciated by a dog lover like me.
The location was absolutely perfect–on the Isle St. Louis, right in the heart of Paris. It is actually more of a residential neighborhood, quaint and romantic, with shops and restaurants lining the narrow streets. We never had to walk more than a couple of blocks to find a nice restaurant. We were just a few blocks from Notre Dame Cathedral, and a metro stop, and within walking distance of the Louvre Museum. Very “Paris”–we would definitely stay there again.

We stayed here for 2 nights in July as part of a 2 week trip in France and were very happy with the choice of hotel.
The rooms were small but well appointed, there is a bar, outside terrace and a lot of history attached the place. The best part however was the location – you are slap bang in the middle of the rue ile st louis and could not be better placed for seeing Paris. Latin quarter is 5-10 mins away; notre dame is 5 mins away and the street where the hotel is based has SO many shops; restaurants, cafes that you could in all honesty jsut stay on the island! The shops on the street include a good deal of speciality shops (cheese, olive oil, jewellary, local produce) and we found these more than suitable for all pressies to take home – plus a few bits of cheese and wine for ourselves
They also organised a special champagne breakfast with flowers for a birthday for us at short notice and booked a beautiful meal for us in the evening to celebrate at a great restaurant (la place de michel if my memory serves me well). It isnt cheap ($220 i think for a double and $159 for a single excluding breakfast) but if its a one off trip and you want a good time then this is perfect and very parisien; which makes a change from what the average hotel chains have to offer..
