The heart of Paris – this is the oldest and one of the prettiest parts of Paris. It has a village feel to it and there are some lovely cafes along the Seine to sit and have breakfast/lunch in. The hotels aren’t cheap but then nowhere in the heart of Paris is. It is a good place for a base from which to explore the rest of Paris. Nr to the Notre Dame and good links with the RER and Metro near by – and a short walk from the Marais. Cute little delis and cafes. It’s also the home of Bertillion – the best ice cream in Paris, France, maybe the world?!

Paris hotels aren’t cheap at all, I feel. But then that seems true of any capital city. Just look at London for example where the situation is arguably worse still.
I have stayed at the Hotel Napoleon on recent visits and been pretty happy with its location. I think it’s the nearest hotel to the Arc de Triomphe. I have looked at others, but places like the Ritz, Le Meurice, etc. – well, they just cost an arm and a leg.
Maybe for a really special occasion…
